Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday raided a house within Siranga area in Dandora, Nairobi and recovered several bales of expired Exe Wheat, Dola Wheat and Golden Wheat flours that were being repackaged after expiring in July 2018.The detectives arrested two people identified as Joyce Nyambura and Samuel Kamau.

It is not yet clear how the suspects obtained packaging materials belonging to genuine companies.

The government in June waged a crackdown on illicit goods following an influx of contraband, counterfeit and substandard goods into the country.

In September, a raid by Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) and public health officials in Eldoret led to the discovery of expired cooking oil, rice, sugar and flour worth Ksh 20 million.

As part of the crackdown, Kebs Managing Director Charles Ongwae and six others have been arrested over the importation of substandard fertilizer and fake KEBS stamps.
