Tuskys Supermarkets is set to open two new premium branches in Kisumu and Kisii this week.
The two new stores revamped at an investment cost of Ksh 240 million will push up the retailer’s branch network to 64 stores with 57 branches in Kenya and seven in Uganda. The retailer also owns Mavazi, a clothing and accessories departmental store with plans to open similar outlets next year.
Tuskys CEO Dan Githua says the two stores with a cumulative shop floor space of more than 40,000Square feet, will provide an expanded range of economic benefits to the Nyanza region with direct and indirect employment, expanded supply opportunities and wider market choice for customers.
The opening of Tuskys Echiro along Moi Avenue in Kisii town will serve to further enhance the retailer’s presence in the fast growing Kisii County and its environs. Tusker Mattresses already has a presence in Kisii where it operates the Tuskys Chigware supermarket.
On the other hand, the opening of Tuskys Lolwe Supermarket at Mega Plaza will act as an addition to the existing Tuskys United Supermarket located at United Mall, Kisumu.
“At Tusker Mattresses, we remain committed to deepening the formal retail market in East Africa and will continue to invest heavily on customer experience and variety of products on our shelves to meet the dynamic market needs,” Githua said, adding that, “the opening of Kisii and Kisumu branches provides us with a good opportunity to enhance our footprint and economic contribution in the fast growing Nyanza region.”
Githua said the regional retail giant will also undertake customer experience upgrades in all its branches.

The retailer recently announced that they are also eyeing the premium market segment with ongoing upgrades at its Tuskys Thigiri branch in Nairobi’s upmarket Spring Valley. The upgraded store is set to be opened later this month and will provide a wider variety of products and services.
Tuskys ongoing corporate transformation efforts received a global commendation at the prestigious 4th World Branding Awards held at the Kensington Palace in London last month.
In a rare commendation for a local brand, Tuskys won the Kenya Supermarket Brand of the Year category. The World Branding Awards is the premier awards of the World Branding Forum for corporates drawn from the Commonwealth.
The win completes an awards hat trick for Tuskys which was recently adjudged an East Africa Superbrand Top 20 and Samsung Africa’s most valued distributor in East Africa.
