As it marks 15 years in business, Kenyan hotel operator Trianum Hospitality is planning to take its operations beyond Kenya, targeting key markets across East Africa.
Founded in 2010 as a hospitality advisory firm, Trianum now manages seven properties in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu, offering 335 rooms.
The company helps hotel owners with everything from project design and feasibility studies to pre-opening and operational management.
Founder and board director Samantha Muna said the company is leaning more on partnerships with international hotel groups such as Best Western to meet growing investor and market demand.
“Our guest profile has evolved over the years. While we used to host mostly expatriates and UN staff, today most of our guests come from African countries like Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda,” Muna explained.
She also highlighted an uptick in medical tourism, with families accompanying patients visiting Nairobi for treatment.
Trianum is positioning its serviced apartments as an alternative to short-term rental platforms, appealing to visitors who prefer longer stays with services such as housekeeping, security, and reception.
Looking ahead, Trianum is developing projects in Rwanda, Zanzibar, and other regional hubs, with feasibility and design work underway for four more properties.
The company has already launched projects like Executive Residency by Best Western on Riverside Drive and Heri Heights SureStay Collection by Best Western near Nairobi Arboretum. Muna emphasised that expansion is carefully phased based on market demand.
The firm is also prioritising community impact through an initiative called Local Options to Create an African Landscape, or LOCAL.
The program focuses on supporting Kenyan suppliers, promoting women to leadership roles, creating youth employment opportunities, and introducing environmentally friendly practices, including recycling, energy efficiency, and cutting down on single-use plastics.
Chief executive Liza Uku said Trianum is committed to balancing growth with community development.
“We want to grow while also creating jobs and strengthening partnerships with local communities,” she said.
Trianum has launched a new strategy called Trianum Living, which will focus on apartment hotels, boutique lifestyle hotels, community-based homestays, and the expansion of its restaurant brand, Scapes.
The company has also registered in Rwanda as Trianum Century Rwanda Limited and is exploring opportunities in Uganda and Tanzania. Plans are also underway to establish a hotel equity fund to support future projects.
With this expansion, Trianum Hospitality is aiming to grow its footprint across East Africa while staying focused on sustainable practices and community development.
