Shabana FC have confirmed the signing of striker Humphrey Obino as they intensify preparations for the 2025–26 FKF Premier League season.
Obino, who previously turned out for Murang’a Seal, is highly rated for his pace, sharp finishing, and ability to unlock defences.
The Kisii-based side has been working hard in pre-season, having travelled to Uganda on August 25 for an intensive training camp. The programme includes fitness drills and friendly matches designed to strengthen the squad before the new campaign kicks off.
Head coach Peter Okidi is optimistic that the rigorous schedule will sharpen his players, while forward Brian Michira has declared that the team’s target this season is the league title.
Last season, Shabana finished fifth with 53 points, a respectable achievement but short of their ultimate ambitions. The addition of Obino and other recruits such as Biron ‘Ngolo’ Otieno from Kariobangi Sharks reflects a clear intention to push higher up the table.
The team has openly stated that Kenya Police FC’s maiden championship triumph has inspired them to dream bigger.
Away from the pitch, the club has sounded an alarm over counterfeit jerseys and merchandise being sold in the market.
Shabana has urged fans to support the team by buying only official kits from accredited outlets like Gusii Stadium and MAFRO Sports. The management insists that fake merchandise undermines the club’s brand and hurts the wider sports economy.
To further connect with their supporters, Shabana has announced that September 7 will be celebrated as “Shabana Day” at Gusii Stadium.
The festivities will feature a friendly match against Tanzania’s Pamba Jiji FC, cultural showcases, live music, and activities designed to bring fans closer to the team. Funds raised during the event will go toward player welfare and community programmes.
In addition to high-profile signings, Shabana has also been investing in youth development. In July, the club held open trials in Nyamira County for under-23 players, offering young talents an opportunity to stake their claim in the senior squad. The trials are part of a wider plan to build a sustainable future by blending fresh prospects with experienced players.
Founded in 1980, Shabana FC remain one of Kenya’s most storied football clubs, with Gusii Stadium serving as their fortress. Under the leadership of Chairman Jared Nivaton Ombongi and coach Peter Okidi, the team is working to re-establish itself among the country’s elite.
