Scope Markets Backs Kenya’s eSports Dream

Scope Markets on Monday, June 6 unveiled an new partnership with the eSports Kenya Federation, officially becoming the main sponsor of the team set to represent the country at the inaugural Commonwealth eSports Championships.

eSports will be making its Commonwealth debut at the games in Birmingham in August.

The sponsorship comes as a big boost to the federation in its preparation for the games. Kenya hopes to compete for all three eSports titles on offer at the Commonwealth games in Birmingham – Rocket League, eFootball and Dota 2.

eSports Kenya Federation CEO Bavon Ojwang’ was present as the firm announced the sponsorship.

The country has secured direct qualification for Dota 2, but still has to take part in regional qualifiers before the championships to have a shot at the other titles.

The financial details of the sponsorship by Scope Markets, an online foreign exchange broker, remain undisclosed.

Index G eSports will organize the national qualification tournament and support the squad’s preparations for Birmingham. It will also be responsible for the communication strategy and related activations.

Kenya will send 4 PES players, 3 Dota 2 players and 3 Rocket League players

The national qualifiers are scheduled for Saturday, June 11 in Nairobi. According to the esports Federation, qualifiers will be used to choose players for two categories: Dota 2 and Rocket League.

The winner in the national qualifiers will get Ksh200,000 in prize money in addition to the opportunity to represent the country at the Commonwealth eSports Championships in August.
