Jackson Ngechu Makini, better known as CMB Prezzo, has resigned as a member of the Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Democratic Movement.
The rapper is eyeing the Kasarani MP seat in the General Elections slated for August . In recent weeks, Prezzo has been sensitizing voters on the registration exercise being undertaken by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
On January 25, Prezzo shared a letter he wrote to the Wiper Secretary-General informing the party of his resignation.
“I write to you to inform you of my decision to resign from Wiper Democratic Party of Kenya under section 14 (1)(a) of the political parties act as read with article 38 of the constitution effective today,” he wrote.
He wished the party the best in their future endeavors. Prezzo had in a separate post promised to announce his political vehicle of choice in due course.
The rapper was unveiled by Kalonzo as a Wiper member and their candidate for Kibra MP in the 2019 by-election that followed the passing of Ken Okoth.

Wiper, however, ended up pulling Prezzo out of the race. The decision was reportedly a favor to their partners ANC and Ford Kenya for supporting them in the Embakasi South parliamentary race.
Prezzo is a highly acclaimed entertainer who in the 2000’s was one of the biggest names in Kenyan music.
He later had a stint on Big Brother Africa, the continental reality show, and put in the best performance by a Kenyan as he finished runners up. The man refers to himself as “the most interesting man in Africa”.
He has previously cited his involvement in community projects in Kibra and his desire to uplift others as being key to his decision to plunge into politics. His experience on the political front includes a stint in 2013 when he was a youth leader working with Maina Njenga, the former Mungiki leader.
