In the heart of North Sakwa Ward, Awendo Constituency, Migori County, a new chapter of hope has begun for Rose Obuya, a 38-year-old widow and mother of five.

Thanks to the Widows Empowerment Program by Interior PS Raymond Omollo, Rose has received a newly built, fully furnished house—offering her family a stable and dignified home after years of hardship.

Previously living in a dilapidated mud-walled structure, Rose struggled to protect her children from harsh weather and constant insecurity.

Today, that vulnerability has been replaced by the comfort and safety of a permanent home, complete with bedding, essential household items, and kitchenware. This transformation reflects the program’s mission to restore dignity to widows across Kenya.

But the support did not end with housing. Understanding the broader challenges Rose faces, the program—under the stewardship of Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo—has also pledged to pay the school fees for one of her children currently in Form Four. This gesture eases the family’s financial burden and helps pave the way for a brighter future.

Rose is also a member of the Kuja Widows Group, a community-based collective in Awendo that has benefited from the program’s broader initiatives. The group has been equipped with poultry farming resources and catering equipment to support income generation at local events—ensuring that empowerment extends beyond individual households to foster sustainable, collective progress.

The house handover was conducted by local coordinators and community champions, reflecting the program’s grassroots, community-first approach. Rooted in compassion and driven by local networks, the Widows Empowerment Program is quietly transforming rural lives—one woman, one home, and one future at a time.

From vulnerability to stability, from despair to dignity—Rose’s story is a powerful testament to what’s possible when leadership responds to the real needs of real people.
