A post using the image of gospel musician Karangu Muraya to promise loans is a scam.

The post by Facebook user Kamau wa Kag’ethe promised a loan of Ksh70,000 to users who deposit Ksh5,000.

The user behind the post promised the loans within 20 minutes but did not mention the name of the firm/individual giving the loans.

The post shared a phone number allegedly belonging to the secretary of the loan providers without giving details about their name.

“To join our investor Group Deposit Kshs. 5,000 refudable Get loan kshs 70,000 within 20 minutes Without Guarantor. Whatsapp Our Secretary 0795217639 (sic),” the post read.

Business Today has found the post to be a scam, most probably being used by fraudsters to scam unsuspecting Kenyans.

The Facebook page promising the loans has been sharing similar posts using different images of prominent personalities, pointing to a possible scam. However, Muraya’s image is featured frequently in the posts.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page, Muraya dismissed the posts, saying he was not aware of such loans.

“Caution. Mimi hakuna kitu kama hii najua.Usikubali kuconiwa. (I do not know such a thing. Do not be conned),” Muraya stated.

Karangu Muraya is a Kikuyu gospel singer and philanthropist.

The artist is known for his many songs, including a song he released in 2020 praising former President Uhuru Kenyatta over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The post(s) using the image Karangu Muraya to promise loans is, therefore, a scam.
