Dimension Data, the IT infrastructure and services company, has appointed Peter Gitonga as new General Manager for managed services, East Africa. In his new role, Mr Gitonga will provide strategic leadership for Dimension Data’s East Africa operations, overseeing a spectrum of technology-based managed services.

This includes network, applications, and security, in collaboration with key partners. His responsibilities involve working closely with business leaders across sectors, assessing their needs, designing tailored solutions, and facilitating smooth migrations to Dimension Data’s managed platforms.

Mr Gitonga aims to elevate customer experiences beyond traditional Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by introducing a Customer Experience Level Agreement (CXLE). With this appointment, Dimension Data reaffirms its dedication to delivering top-tier technology solutions and enhancing customer experiences across diverse industries.

Mr Gitonga recently worked as a CIO/Head ICT in a leading bank with focus on managing delivery of services across the group as well as software innovations projects. He has spent his career in banking and is looking forward to taking his experience working for corporates and elevating customer experiences beyond traditional Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by introducing a Customer Experience Level Agreement (CXLE).

“Dimension Data is known for its leadership in the IT services domain across four decades,” said Mr Gitonga. “Our goal is to empower East African clients to focus on growth while entrusting us with secure, managed service delivery.”

Reflecting on the current state of managed services adoption in Kenya and the region, Mr Gitonga. expressed his vision for a substantial increase in uptake within the next few years. “While there’s been a slower adoption of managed services due to limited awareness and enablement,” he said, “our establishment of the Managed Services Division within East Africa, is poised to change this landscape. We anticipate liberating organizations across sectors, aiming for a 5-10% adoption rate within the next one to three years.”

Identifying regulatory hurdles and data privacy concerns as challenges, Mr Gitonga remains optimistic about overcoming these obstacles and bridging the knowledge gap surrounding managed services.

Under Mr Gitonga ‘s leadership, Dimension Data will prioritize Software as a Service (SaaS) domains and Managed Network & Collaboration Services (MCNS). Additionally, innovative services like managed Smart Cities, Buildings, and IoT are in the pipeline, offering clients a unified platform with comprehensive asset management.
