At the Light Group of Schools (LGS), a leading private educational institution in Kenya, a new chapter in youth athletics and sports is taking shape. The school’s main campus in Nairobi has broken ground on an Olympic-grade swimming pool, a transformative project set to cement its reputation as a beacon of academic and sporting excellence in East Africa.
The school said “this facility underscores the institution’s strategic investment in infrastructure that fuels talent, nurtures well-rounded learners, and positions LGS as a premier hub for elite sports training in the region.”
This milestone comes amid a string of sporting successes for LGS, with its teams winning gold medals in events like the PIPSSA (Private and International Prep Schools Sports Association), IPSSA tournaments, basketball leagues, and the prestigious Southampton Cup in football, including top honours in swimming competitions.
The state-of-the-art facility, designed to meet international competition standards, will only amplify the institution’s sporting excellence and further its dominance. According to the Head of School, once completed, it will serve students across all campuses by being integrated into the school’s Sports Pipeline, which is a proven system for developing high-performing athletes across all disciplines.

“This is more than a construction project. It is a symbol of how we build futures one lane, one lap, one learner at a time,” the Head of School said at a media briefing. “We are creating a space where young talent can not only compete but thrive.”
The new pool will also host inter-school swimming galas and provide training for aspiring athletes, strengthening Nairobi’s sporting ecosystem as a whole, while offering an unparalleled aquatic experience to the trainees.
Weekly updates on its construction, alongside exclusive behind-the-scenes content, will be shared on LGS’s digital platforms to engage parents, partners, and the wider community.
LGS, which follows a British Curriculum, has built a reputation for blending academic excellence with extracurricular achievement.
