NSE Closes the Week on a Bullish Note

Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) closed last week on a bullish note, with the NASI, N10, NSE 20, and NSE 25 rising by 4.1%, 5.6%, 4.8%, and 5.1%, respectively.

Market activity declined to US$ 35.8m, down 50.5% Equity Group dominated market activity, accounting for 23.2% of the week’s turnover. The counter’s price function strengthened by 8.6% to KSh 107.00.

Likewise, the NSE, KCB Group, I&M and Safaricom advanced by 8.1% ,7.5%, 5.9% and 3.3%, to KSh 29.90, KSh 93.50, KSh 85.00, and KSh 36.45, respectively.

NSE Top Gainer and Loser

Uchumi jumped by 37.0% to KSh 1.63, closing the week as the top gainer at the bourse. Conversely, Limuru Tea slid by 4.7% to KSh 510.00, emerging as the leading laggard.

Foreign investors were net buyers at the NSE, with net inflows of US$ 596.7k. Equity Group led the buying charge, while Safaricom led he selling charge. Foreign investor activity expanded to 30.1% from 23.7% in the prior week.

All eyes will be on September 2026 and the upcoming meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Kenya(CBK).

In the fixed income market, Investor appetite for Treasury Bills softened this week as total submitted bids fell to KSh 41.72 billion compared to KSh 42.72 billion recorded last week, of which the fiscal agent accepted KSh 33.35Bn resulting in the subscription rate of 80% and a performance rate of 149%; underperforming the subscription rate of 99%, recorded the prior week.

The 91-day Treasury Bill remained the most attractive debt instrument, registering a performance rate of 222%. The auction was significantly oversubscribed, receiving KSh 18billion in bids compared to the KSh 8.0billion on offer.

In the primary space, the CBK has announced KSh 50Bn domestic borrowing program for October 2026 to participate in the re-opened 15 and 20-year Treasury Bonds.
