Nominated Senator Maureen Tabitha Mutinda has earned a major international appointment after being elected to the Board of Governance of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for the 2025 to 2027 term.
The Senate confirmed her election in an official statement on Wednesday, October 9, saying Senator Mutinda will represent the East African region on the influential board.
The Parliamentary Network’s Board of Governance is responsible for setting the organisation’s strategic agenda and guiding its global activities.
“The Board of Governance is charged with the responsibility of setting the strategic agenda and providing guidance for the activities of the Parliamentary Network. The Senator will represent the East Africa region within the board,” the Senate said in a post on X.
Speaker Amason Kingi announced during the Senate’s afternoon sitting, where he congratulated Senator Mutinda and encouraged other lawmakers to rally behind her as she takes up the prestigious role.
“I have a communication to make on the election of Sen. Maureen Tabitha Mutinda, MP, to serve as a Member of the Board of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the term 2025–2027,” Kingi said.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the Honourable Senator on my own behalf and on behalf of the Senate on her election, and urge all Honourable Senators to accord her the necessary support as she undertakes this important role on behalf of our region.”
Mutinda will officially assume her new duties on October 13, 2025, during the Parliamentary engagements at the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF.
In her new role, she will play a key part in shaping policies that promote accountability, financial governance, and sustainable development across member countries.
The Parliamentary Network brings together legislators from over 140 countries, offering them a platform to discuss transparency, macroeconomic stability, and the role of international finance in driving development.
Established in 2000, the network encourages dialogue between lawmakers, civil society, and global financial institutions. It operates from a secretariat in Paris and focuses on promoting sound governance, poverty reduction, and inclusive economic growth.
Despite her new international responsibilities, Senator Mutinda will continue serving in the Senate, ensuring Kenya remains actively represented in both national and global conversations on economic governance.
Her election has been hailed as a proud moment for Kenya and the East African region, marking a step forward in strengthening the country’s voice in global financial and development discussions.
