For David Murathe, the immediate former Jubilee Party Vice Chairperson, Deputy President William Ruto is unsuitable to occupy the highest office in the land. The former Gatanga MP says that the high number of Ruto’ s allies prosecuted for corruption is the sole reason why he is putting out all stops to ensure that he scuttles his new political nemesis’ 2022 State House march.
In an interview with KTN News on Sunday, Murathe lifted the lid on the intrigues behind his politically inflammatory comments targeted at the DP and why he is unapologetic about it.
Murathe reiterated comments that he had made earlier in the day insisting that he had not been pushed out of the ruling party and resigned willingly to avoid conflict of interest since he will be seeking an advisory opinion at the Supreme Court on the eligibility of his former deputy party leader to run for president.
“I opted to resign which for me is a relief because I will no longer have the baggage of having to clarify who I speak for every time. When I speak, I do so as David Murathe and not at the behest of the president or any other forces, I am an independent voice and in any case, I thought people have the freedom of speech and the right to express their opinion in this country,” said the retired politician.
Murathe hard pressed on why he has decided to make comments that have proved to be unpopular with fellow party members, he fell short of saying that the country should be thanking him for averting a crisis that would happen too close to the 2022 presidential election that would be impossible to stop.
“The reason why I am bringing this out now is to eradicate the notion that there is an MOU that the president will support the Deputy President come 2022. If that is not checked now it will be a time bomb and a recipee for violence. We are raising it now so that people start to internalize the fact that that after Uhuru, Mt Kenya should be free to chart its own political path,” said Murathe.

The former Gatanga MP accused the Deputy President of presiding over corruption during the ten years he has been in office terming that as the only reason why he is ruining the party for Dr Ruto.
“As a party we had certain aspirations and expectations about how the leadership would conduct itself once it clinched power. But from where we sit we are genuinely scared about what they (DP Ruto’s camp) will do once they become number one,” posed Murathe.

He added, “We do not have a problem with the Kalenjin community. We have a problem with the character who some of us believe is not suited to be president,”
Earlier, Murathe called for a press conference where he announced his resignation saying that his position at the party was no longer tenable.
His announcement was welcomed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who termed his resignation was in the best interests of the party.
Media reports indicate that President Kenyatta intervened to stop the party from imploding.
