Mount Kenya University (MKU) has launched the 2025 edition of its Annual Alumni Award, an initiative that celebrates graduates making a difference in society and across the world.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, said the award is one of the university’s ways of recognising and rewarding excellence among its former students.
“Mount Kenya University is delighted to announce the Annual Alumni Award 2025 and to invite nominations of outstanding graduates for this prestigious recognition,” Jaganyi said.
The award seeks to honour alumni who have excelled in different area,s including community service, professional excellence, public service and leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as global impact.
According to the university, the recognition is meant to highlight individuals whose work embodies the values and mission of MKU.
“The Most Outstanding Alumni Award will recognise individuals in one or more of the following categories. Community Service, for those with outstanding dedication to societal development. Professional Excellence, for alumni who have demonstrated distinction in a chosen career or field.
Public Service and Leadership, for significant contributions in governance, policy or community leadership. Innovation and Entrepreneurship, for impact in business, technology or social enterprise. Global Impact, for contributions with international influence or recognition,” Jaganyi said.
Winners will receive up to 50,000 US dollars in support of their initiatives that advance community impact, promote professional growth and strengthen the university’s values.
They will also be awarded an alumni certificate of recognition, and their names will be inscribed on the MKU Alumni Wall of Honour.
To be considered, nominees must be graduates of MKU with proven and sustained contributions in their chosen area of impact. They are also expected to exhibit integrity, professionalism and values that reflect the university’s mission.
The university clarified that MKU employees, members of the University Council, individuals with a conflict of interest, as well as current members of the MKU Alumni Executive Council, are not eligible for the award.
Jaganyi said the award was created to strengthen the bond between the university and its alumni while encouraging graduates to continue impacting communities positively.
“Through this award, we not only celebrate our alumni but also demonstrate the important role they play in shaping society and inspiring future generations of MKU students,” he said.
