In a remarkable career shift, Michelle Morgan has transitioned from a prominent broadcast journalist to the Chief Executive Officer of BM Security, a leading private security firm in Kenya. Her appointment in  September 2024 marked a significant milestone in her professional journey and highlighted the evolving landscape of leadership in the corporate sector, with journalists transitioning into the C-suite.

Michelle’s pivot is somewhat interesting. Usually journalists rise to management within media, but she shifted into security, perhaps pulled by her bloodline, being the daughter of Bob Morgan, the founder of BM security. Before her current role, she worked as a broadcast journalist at various media outlets in Kenya, including Citizen TV, Ebru TV, and K24.

Michelle Morgan had gained experience in the security industry, having served as the Executive Director of BM Security. Outside her professional life, Michelle is a passionate polo player and is known for her involvement in various equestrian events and ventures in Kenya.

Michelle’s media journey began in 2012 when she joined Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV as a prime-time news anchor. She later worked with Ebru TV and K24, gaining extensive experience in broadcast journalism. Her roles included anchoring business news segments, where she honed her communication and leadership skills .

In 2018, Michelle shifted gears and joined BM Security, founded by her late father, Bob Morgan, in 1984. Initially serving as the Executive Director, she oversaw BM Systems, the company’s technology division. Her leadership was instrumental in driving the company’s digital transformation, positioning BM Security at the forefront of technological advancements in the security sector.

On September 2, 2024, Michelle was appointed CEO of BM Security, succeeding Neil Morgan, who transitioned to the role of chairperson.

“Michelle brings with her over seven years of experience in the security services industry, having previously served as the Executive Director with direct oversight of our technology division, BM Systems,” BM Securities Managing Director Cedar Morgan said. “During her time in this role, she was instrumental in driving our digital transformation initiatives, positioning the company at the forefront of technological advancements in the security sector.”

Under her leadership, the company continues to offer a comprehensive suite of services, including manned guarding, advanced electronic security systems, cash management, rapid emergency response, and expert consulting .

Michelle’s appointment underscores the importance of adaptability and innovation in leadership. Her diverse background and commitment to excellence position her to lead BM Security into a new era of growth and innovation.

Michelle, as it were, is the daughter of the late Bob Morgan who was a senior assistant commissioner in the late President  Daniel arap Moi government. Michelle attended Hillcrest Secondary School where sat for her A levels in French, Business and Drama from 2003 to 2007. She went on to join the prestigious Middlesex University in London, United Kingdom-graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication.

Apart from being at the helm of BM Security, Michelle together with her Asian husband Peng Chen, established  Alchemist Bar and Restaurant in Westlands on 31st December 2015. The open club and restaurant provides space for live events and acoustic bands.

The restaurant has different facilities including an open air cinema, a lounge, a chill out spot, an outdoor dining space, food trucks, a designer shopping space and a nightclub. The popular Mama Rocks Gourmet Burgers food truck is situated at the premises.
