According to the experts, a good night’s sleep is essential to human productivity and general well-being. In Kenya, Adnan Merdin built an empire selling quality sleep to the masses.

Merdin is the founder and CEO Turea Limited which owns Dr Mattress, one of the country’s largest and most popular mattress brands. He established the firm in 2012. Mattresses produced by Dr Mattress are generally of higher quality than most locally produced mattresses targeting the mass market, earning them a solid reputation and commanding higher prices.

Merdin also displayed his business acumen by lessening the role of third-party distributors in his operations, instead opting to go direct to consumers and build out his own distribution infrastructure. Dr Mattress operates showrooms spread across key locations in cities and towns across the country, taking the company closer to its customers.

The quality of its range of mattresses has also enabled the firm to seal lucrative deals with companies not just in Kenya but around the world. It is a manufacturing partner of Hypnos (UK) which describes itself as the maker of the world’s most comfortable beds.

It has also supplied mattresses to many of Kenya’s most popular high end hotels, including Sarova, Ibis, Intercontinental and the luxurious Mahali Mzuri camp.

Dr. Mattress is  also a distributor of CLEAN REST America mattress protectors and anti bed bug Mattress encasing, and a consumer and a distributor of LATEXCO, a natural latex producer.
