A slain Kenyan woman’s body was found in her flat in Woolwich zone in London, UK authorities said on Friday.

The body of Marianne Kilonzi, 43, a banking executive who worked at Citibank, was discovered during a welfare check in her apartment after her sudden disappearance and continued absence stirred whispers of worry among neighbours.

Metropolitan Police patrol units responded to the building on Argyll Road, south-east London, at about 5.25 PM that Friday, officials said.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of her death was blunt force trauma and a head injury. Police confirmed she had been beaten to death.

Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren from the Specialist Crime Directorate, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a tragic crime, and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne’s loved ones and colleagues.”

The Met said that it appeared to be a targeted attack and that residents should not be in fear.

Before her death, Marianne was serving as Vice President, Trade and Working Capital Sales, Treasury and Trade Solutions at Citibank, where she had been working since 2006, two years after graduating with a BSc in Computer Science from Kenyatta University in 2004.

A Citibank spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Anyone with any information that may assist the investigation can call 101 quoting CAD 5231/17Jan, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
