M-Pesa Global has been nominated for the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) under the category of the Best Mobile Innovation for commerce 2019.

This years GLOMO awards winners will be announced in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress (MWC 19) expected to take place between 25th-28th February.

M-Pesa Global that was launched in November 2018 allows all M-Pesa users to send money across the world through different International Money Transfer services or directly into their bank accounts.

The service was nominated alongside Huawei &Schwarz Gruppe, Synchronoss, Ubamarket and Whisbi.

“We launched the product as part of our strategy to open up M-Pesa to the world. The fact that it has been recognized at a global event that is wildly seen as the ‘Oscars’ of the mobile industry is a reflection of how the service has revolutionized the sector,” said Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, the Chief Services Officer of Safaricom.

While announcing this year’s nomination, GSMA boss John Hoffman said that GLOMO provides a world stage where the most inspirational and innovative developments in the mobile industry are recognized.

“The awards attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated is a great achievement,” said Mr Hoffman.

In 2018, Shupavu 291 that was developed by Eneza Education in collaboration with Safaricom won in the Best Mobile Invention for Education category.
