As Kenya takes on Angola in a thrilling African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) match on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Nairobi residents have been advised to prepare for major traffic disruptions across the city.

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a series of temporary road closures and traffic diversions to help ease movement around key routes leading to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where the highly anticipated game will be held.

“Due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi on Thursday, 7th August 2025,” the police said in a statement released on Wednesday evening.

Several major roads will be closed or partially affected. Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout. One lane of Lang’ata Road will also be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout.

In addition, one lane of Mombasa Road will be closed from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

To reduce congestion and ease movement, the police have outlined diversion routes for motorists. Those coming from Mombasa Road and heading to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) should use Likoni Road – Enterprise Road near General Motors, or the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.

Motorists from Lang’ata Road heading to the CBD are advised to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout. Those travelling from the CBD toward Thika Road, including destinations like Ruiru, Juja, and Thika, should opt for Limuru Road or Kiambu Road instead.

Matatus transporting fans to Kasarani Stadium have also been directed to specific routes. They should follow the Ruaraka Baba Ndogo Road, Ngomongo Road, and proceed to Ngomongo Roundabout.

Additionally, motorists from Thika Road heading into the city are encouraged to avoid the main highway and instead use the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

“Avoid Thika Road unless travelling to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium.”

The NPS emphasised that the traffic arrangements are part of ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth experience for football fans and regular commuters during the CHAN 2024 matches.

“The National Police Service is working collaboratively with relevant agencies to ensure the free flow of traffic. Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” the statement added.

The CHAN 2024 tournament has brought a wave of excitement and national pride as Kenya faces Angola in a match that is expected to draw thousands of supporters to Kasarani Stadium.
