The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its online portal for inter-institutional transfer applications from tomorrow, Monday, allowing students to request changes to their university or college placements for the 2025/2026 academic year beginning this September.

The announcement, made by KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome, aims to provide the 2024 cohort of KCSE students with an opportunity to align their academic paths with their preferences, ensuring a better fit for their educational and career goals after initial placement.

“Students placed this year and who wish to transfer to other institutions are invited to apply online through the KUCCPS Student’s Portal from 14th July to 12th August 2025,” KUCCPS said in a notice on Sunday afternoon.

The Process?

KUCCPS online inter-institution or inter-university transfer applications involve the following steps:

  1. A student initiates the process online through the Student’s Portal (students.kuccps.net), and it goes to the receiving institution;
  2. The receiving institution endorses the application online through their institution’s portal and accepts the student.
  3. The releasing institution is notified and releases the student online through their portal.
  4. The application is then forwarded to KUCCPS for approval. Once approved, a transfer letter is generated.
  5. The student downloads the approved transfer letter from the Student’s Portal and submits it to the receiving institution to receive an admission letter and joining instructions.

On 11 July, the CEO KUCCPS informed university vice-chancellors and TVET institution directors about the upcoming transfer period, encouraging them to assist applicants promptly.

Dr Wahome also noted that the transfer option is only open to students who were placed in degree, diploma, certificate, or artisan programmes, and only if they meet the required cut-off points and subject requirements for the course they want to transfer to in the institution they wish to join.

She said the processing fee for inter-institution transfers is Ksh1,000.
