Passengers travelling between Nairobi and New York have been affected after Kenya Airways (KQ) cancelled two flights due to severe winter weather in the United States.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the airline said operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) were significantly disrupted following a blizzard warning and heavy snowfall in several parts of the country, including New York.
According to the airline, airport authorities at JFK suspended all flight operations for specific periods starting Sunday, February 22, 2026, as the storm intensified.
“As a result of the blizzard warning and severe weather conditions, and for the safety of our customers and crew, the following flights have been cancelled,” the airline said.
The affected flights are KQ 002 from Nairobi (NBO) to New York (JFK), which was scheduled to depart on February 22, 2026, and KQ 003 from New York (JFK) to Nairobi (NBO), which was scheduled for February 23, 2026.
Kenya Airways apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the cancellations and thanked them for their patience.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding. The safety and comfort of our customers and crew remain our highest priority,” the airline stated.

The national carrier said it plans to resume the affected services once weather conditions improve. KQ 002 is expected to operate on February 24, 2026, while KQ 003 is scheduled to operate on February 25, 2026, subject to safety clearance.
Kenya Airways added that its teams are closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant airport authorities and stakeholders in New York.
The airline said further updates will be communicated directly to affected customers as soon as new information becomes available.
The disruption comes as parts of the United States continue to experience harsh winter conditions, leading to travel delays and cancellations across several major airports.
