Juja constituency MP Francis Munyua Waititu passed away on the night of Monday, February 22 after a long battle against brain cancer at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi. He was diagnosed on October 8, 2017 after an MRI scan.
The Jubilee Party legislator’s death was confirmed by his wife, Susan Munyua. “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing on of our loving dad Hon. Francis Munyua Waititu. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may God grant him the divine grace to accept his will,” shared Mrs Munyua.
Waititu, famously known as ’Wakapee’ opened up about his illness in 2018 stating that he was forced to seek treatment in India. He disclosed that he was forced to undergo a test by his mother after his older sister died of cancer.
Since the announcement of his illness, Waititu has built awareness on Brain Cancer by opening up on his 2-year battle.
President Uhuru Kenyatta applauded the fallen legislator for his contribution and commitment to the fight against Cancer in the country saying the MP continuously raised public awareness on the disease.
“Throughout his fight with Cancer, Hon Waititu led efforts to overcome the disease through awareness creation and support for initiatives aimed at lowering the cost of treatment in the country,” the President said.

Deputy President William Ruto also expressed his sympathy on Twitter describing Munyua as a principled, hardworking and respected leader who was above party politics.
“He was selfless, bold and gifted with an affable personality. We will miss his enterprising servant leadership that transformed many lives,” he wrote.
National Assembly Speaker Justine Muturi said: “It is with great sadness that I have learnt this (Monday) evening, of the untimely demise of Juja legislator, the Hon. Francis Munyua Waititu after a long illness. My sympathies go to his family, friends and the people of Juja constituency whom he represented with great zeal and commitment.”
He described the late Waititu as a progressive lawmaker who was consistent in introducing pieces of legislation geared towards the improvement of the agricultural sector, and ease of doing business in Kenya.
MP Waititu served as a member of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock from 2013 until his illness.
His passing away came shortly after the death of former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae, Senator Yusuf Haji and MP John Oiyoka.
