Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir has conceded defeat in the Lang’ata MP race, beaten by ODM candidate – media personality and comedian Jalang’o.
Korir, who was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, conceded on the morning of Wednesday, August 10 before official results were announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). He cited in-house analysis of voting confirming that he had lost the race.
He thanked the people of Lang’ata for the opportunity to serve and wished his successor Jalang’o the best of luck in the role.
“Its been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people. From the results that we’ve tallied at the Generali centre, my competitor Jalango has a lead and I want to congratulate his as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward. Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata,” he wrote.
Korir was elected in 2017 on a Jubilee Party ticket. He is allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who is in a race for the Presidency with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Misinformation had been widely circulated on Wednesday, August 10 indicating that Phelix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor had lost to Korir. The final declaration will be made by the IEBC.
Jalang’o is one of Kenya’s most successful comedians. He has hosted shows on major radio stations in the country in addition to building his own media brands such as Jalang’o TV.
Other leaders who have conceded defeat on Wednesday, August 10 include Kipipiri MP, former Finance Cabinet Secretary Amos Kimunya.
