Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has had a long career in politics, spanning over three decades. Kalonzo, a lawyer by profession, has served in numerous public offices over the years, including as Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

He was former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 polls under the  Azimio coalition, in an ultimately unsuccessful bid.

But away from the world of politics, Kalonzo owns a number of properties, businesses and income-generating assets. Among them is the Mwingi Cottages Resort located in Mwingi, in his Ukambani backyard.

The hotel was relaunched at the start of 2022 after a long closure. In 2011, part of the hotel was earmarked for demolition to pave way for the tarmacking of the Mwingi-Kyuso-Tseikuru road by a Chinese company. The resort’s conference hall, the hotel laundry house and the gate were all earmarked for demolition for standing on a road reserve.

In 2022, renovations were undertaken at the resort as it geared up to open its doors once again. Musyoka was present for a pre-launch celebration at the restaurant in December 2022, in which management and staff looked forward to the reopening.

The hotel was reopened at the start of 2023, boasting a raft of amenities. Among them is a swimming pool, restaurant and spacious rooms with modern fittings. It is one of the more prominent hotels in the sleepy Mwingi.

Among other properties owned by Musyoka is a 200-acre farm in Yatta, six vehicles, a mansion worth over Ksh800 million in Nairobi’s upmarket Karen neighborhood and apartments in Nairobi.
