The inaugural Great Rift Cultural Beauty Show will take place at the Eldoret Sports Club on December 15.
The evening event will bring together participants from the North Rift – Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo – and is a precursor to the Great Rift Cultural Festival and Beauty Show to be held next year. Next year’s event will incorporate all the Rift Valley counties.
It is organised by the Global Links Society, an organisation that seeks to make a difference among disadvantaged communities by applying innovative ways to exploit locally available resources.
Thisevent, according to the organizers, is inspired by the need to create opportunities for the people of the Rift Valley to market and benefit from their cultural and natural resources as a means to improving and diversifying livelihoods, as well as building cohesion especially among communities affected by cattle rustling and other forms of conflict. It also seeks to build the region’s profile and position it as an athletics powerhouse, especially in long and middle distance races. .
“The Rift Valley is a region that is rich in resources, yet little understood: A region that has produced world-beaters in middle and long distance running, yet little celebrated or acknowledged, said a media statement released by the organisation.
