How To Register For SHA

The Social Health Authority (SHA) is established under section 25 of the Act and is utilized to pool all contributions made under the Act.

SHA is designed to provide healthcare services from empanelled and contracted healthcare providers and healthcare facilities on referral from primary health facilities.

Every person resident in Kenya is required to apply for registration to the Authority as a member of the Social Health Authority within 90 days of the coming into force of the regulations.

Every person residing in Kenya is required to apply for registration to SHA, with specific provisions for children who lack identification documents​.

The fund covers integrated preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative health services provided at level 4, 5, and 6 health facilities​​.

How to register for SHA

Dial the USSD code *147# on your phone.

You will be prompted to provide information such as your citizenship, National Identity Number (ID), and phone number.

Registering online

While registering online, you will be required to provide details such as full name, occupation, date of birth, marital status, KRA PIN, address and contact details.

Step 1: Visit the SHA Website

Go to the official SHA website at https://sha.go.ke/. On the home page, you will find an option to register an individual. Click the option and fill in the required details.

In case you own a company, you will be required to register your employees and remit their deductions every month.

Step 2: Verify Your Account

Once you’ve submitted your details, you’ll need to verify your account. This process ensures that the information provided is accurate and secure. Follow the instructions sent to your email or phone to complete the verification. Once verified, your account will be ready to use.

Step 3: Remit SHIF Contributions

For companies, once the registration is complete, the portal allows you to remit Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) contributions.

Contributions are calculated as 2.75% of each employee’s gross salary.
