George Oduor, a former soldier who became the bodyguard of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is dead.

Reports say he died after a long illness at Nairobi West Hospital but did not specify the cause.

News of his passing was confirmed by Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai in a post on social media.

“Wah, George Oduor! Rest in peace, my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance. You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us,” Alai wrote on X.

Several ODM-affiliated leaders, including the party’s communication director, Philip Etale, have already sent messages of condolence to the family, eulogising the fallen protector as loyal to the end.

“I have lost a friend,” Etale mourned. “Big bro, rest easy George.”

Oduor had been a close associate of Raila for many years, often seen as his bodyguard, and was a familiar figure at the former PM’s events and engagements.

While lauding his dedication to duty, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi said his courage was admired by all who knew him.
