George Mudhune appointed Galanz Country Director for Kenya

George Mudhune is the new Country Director for Kenya at Galanz. Prior to this appointment, he was the General Manager for East & Southern Africa at Philips for three years a position he took after over a decade at LG Electronics where he was instrumental in its East and Central Africa regional growth in various senior marketing positions. He has also worked for Sony Corporation and Trans Business Machines Ltd, an IBM business partner.

Mudhune, who is described by industry colleagues as a resilient strategic person in managing business operations, will now be expected to solidify Galanz business structure from a leadership and strategic point of view in driving growth. He was the strategic architect behind the successful regional in-store concepts at LG Electronics that propelled sales and brand development for the Korean multinational a virtue that he moved with to Philips where his presence is understood to have propelled sales growth and product portfolio development.    

Galanz will be looking at tapping into Mudhune’s vast market knowledge and good understanding of the regional consumer and commercial dynamics to drive its regional business growth commencing with Kenya. In the new role, Mudhune will be leading go-to-market (GTM) strategy, sales growth planning, business partner’s management, product portfolio management, market research, distribution channel strategy and supply chain management.      

Galanz is a multinational world-class integrated white goods brand enterprise and one of the most influential leading Chinese manufacturer of electronic home appliances, headquartered in FoshanGuangdong. It is the largest microwave oven manufacturer in the world, producing one in every two microwave ovens. In 1993, Galanz made a deal with Toshiba for producing OEM Toshiba branded microwave ovens with Galanz later purchasing the appliance division from Toshiba in return for Toshiba holding a 5% stake. Over the years, Galanz has expanded its product line to include air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, electric ovens and other household appliances.

In Kenya, Galanz already has a strong OEM business model and the appointment of Mudhune, who in 2013 was recognised by the World Marketing Summit as one of the top 50 most talented marketing professionals, is expected to revitalise the business structure and bring in strategic initiatives.

The consumer electronics industry in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region at large is extremely competitive and the hands on Mudhune who is known to spend a lot of time in trade is tasked with steering Galanz ambitious growth in the regional markets.
