Garden City has  announced breaking ground and commencement of construction for the first commercial office phase of its Business Park, located at exit 7 on Thika Super Highway.

This latest announcement follows Garden City’s recent signing of a long-term lease with East African Breweries Limited (EABL) to take up 60% premium office space within Garden City’s first commercial office phase. The Business Park, spread across 15 acres within Garden City’s master plan, is the second stage of the overall development, which first broke ground in July 2013.

Commenting on the groundbreaking, Chris Coulson, MD of Garden City said: “This first phase of the Garden City Business Park will bring over 12,500sqm of modern, Grade A office space to the Northern Nairobi catchment area, which currently doesn’t have any other integrated retail, office or leisure facilities, so we’re delighted to be breaking ground with 60% of the space already pre-leased to EABL. It’s an ideal location for any corporate headquarters, with its own dedicated entrance and access to over 100 shops and restaurants at the Mall alongside our Garden City apartments and townhouses.”

Koome Gikunda, Director, Actis, commented: “Garden City is Kenya’s first mixed-use development, designed to offer a new, decentralised space for businesses and families to be able to work and enjoy their family and leisure time in a safe, open, green environment spread over 47 acres. Our first residential phases of apartments and townhouses are complete with 75% sold. The Mall, which welcomes over 400,000 shoppers a month, is growing from strength to strength, with East Africa’s largest iMax Cinema already the most popular movie theatre in Nairobi, and Shoprite due to open its first Nairobi supermarket in August. Breaking ground on the first phase of offices for the Business Park is the next big step to complete the vision.”

Designed by a team of international architects for both functionality and comfort, the Garden City Business Park, will offer over 25,000 sqm of lettable Grade A offices once completed, plus a healthcare facility, two hotels and over 400 additional mid-market residential units. The first phase of the Business Park, scheduled for completion in Q2 of 2019, encompasses over 12,500sqm of Gross Leasable Area (GLA) spread over two buildings.

Garden City’s integrated amenities complete the ‘Live, Work and Play’ concept of the mixed-use development with its vast range of retail, dining, leisure and hospitality options offering excellent add-on value to the anticipated 3,000-strong office community.
