A fire broke out at Moonlight Shopping Center in Eastleigh, Nairobi City County, in the late hours of Tuesday morning.

Firefighters arrived around 11:30 am after receiving a call just before noon about the fire at Eastleigh’s 12th Street, a renowned hub for the trading communities and locals living in the area.

It took about thirty minutes for first responders to get the fire under control.

After a short preliminary investigation, the police officials who arrived at the scene said the fire is believed to have started following a cooking gas incident on the first floor of the storey building housing Madal Restaurant and Cafe.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said there are currently no reported injuries, but all the businesses in the building and those close by remain shut as the precise cause of the fire, including the extent of property damage, is being investigated.
