The Britam Holdings PLC has announced the death of its Group Board Chairman, Kuria Muchiru, who passed away on March 19, 2026, after a short illness.
In a statement, the company’s Board of Directors and Management said they were “saddened” by his passing, describing him as a visionary leader who played a critical role in steering the organization through a transformative period.
“Kuria joined Britam as a Non-Executive Director in August 2021 and was appointed Board Chairman in December 2021,” the statement said. “During his tenure, he provided steady, visionary leadership at a pivotal time, guiding the Group through transformation, strengthening governance and restoring stakeholder confidence while positioning Britam for sustained growth.”
Britam credited Muchiru with reinforcing corporate governance structures and helping rebuild trust among stakeholders, while laying the foundation for long-term expansion across its markets.
Beyond his professional achievements, the company highlighted his personal qualities, noting that he would be remembered for his wisdom, integrity, and compassion.
“Beyond his professional contributions, Kuria will be remembered for his wisdom, integrity, and the genuine care he extended to those around him,” the statement read. “His legacy lives on not only in the strength of our business, but also in the leaders he mentored and the values he championed across Kenya and the region.”
The firm extended its condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, acknowledging the impact he had on those who worked closely with him.
“On behalf of the entire Britam family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who had the privilege of working with him. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
Muchiru’s death marks a significant loss to Kenya’s corporate sector, where he was regarded as an influential figure in business leadership and governance.
