The Brazil national volleyball team easily defeated Kenya’s Malkia Strikers 3-0 at the South Paris Arena on Monday in their Pool B Olympic Games Paris 2024 opener.

For the first few minutes of the game, volleyballs fell like hailstones on either side of the net, sending echoes to the roof of the arena, as the two women’s volleyball teams traded spikes until Brazil went on a blistering run towards the end of the first set and continuously to beat Kenya in straight games;

Despite Malkia Strikers having the likes of experienced Edith Wisa, Veronica Adhiambo, Aggripina Kundu and Triza Atuka in their formation, they were unable to contain the two-time Olympic champions as they lost all sets by wide margins: 25-14, 25-13 and 25-12, respectively.

“Kenya faced a tough match against Brazil, going down 0-3 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12) in our 2024 Paris Olympic Games opener in Pool B. It wasn’t our day, but the journey continues. Keep pushing, and let’s come back stronger,” Malkia Strikers, a proud symbol of the country’s passion for the sport, said on Facebook.

For Kenya to continue up to the medal round at the Olympics, it must strive to defeat powerful Poland when the teams meet on Wednesday. If Malkia Strikers lose, their chances of qualifying will be slim as they are also scheduled to play former Olympic champions Japan.

Speaking after the recent loss, Malkia Strikers head coach Japheth Munala said he is optimistic that the team will perform better in the coming games.
