Andela has launched a competitive online code challenge for software engineers named “Crack the Code” to keep participants busy while working from home to prevent infection with the Coronavirus

Open only to software engineers physically in Kenya, the online challenge runs on HackerRank has five questions in total – one easy, 2 intermediate and 2 advanced – with each participant required to answer a minimum of three questions.

Participants will need to be proficient in the following stacks for this challenge: Javascript, Python 2, Python 3, Go, Kotlin, Java 7, Java 8 and Ruby.

The challenge is aimed at engaging engineers as they work from their homes away from others whilst they improve skills required for undertaking online technical interviews.

With companies increasing reliance on tech services in this period, engineers can benefit from sharpening their skills and gauging their technical prowess as they stay at home.

This is a timed challenge hence once a participant logs in they will have a total of 48 hours to complete the challenge from the time they begin.

“The times we’re in present unique opportunities for levelling up and acquiring new skills. For software engineers, who are our primary audience, Crack the Code is a fun, challenging and rewarding way to stay on top of their technical game even as they stay at home,” says Janet Maingi, Andela Kenya’s Country Director.

Participants get a score based on their results once they complete the challenge which will be updated periodically on a leaderboard. The top three participants with the highest scores stand to win up to $1,000 worth of prizes.

One has to get above 225 points to be considered eligible to win. The challenge will be open until 11:59 pm on April 6, 2020.
