Airtel Kenya has unveiled its new Smarta Bundles, a comprehensive offering designed to simplify the lives of its customers by combining communication and mobile money services into a single, value-packed package.
This initiative aims to provide a smarter way for users to stay connected and manage their financial transactions seamlessly. The Smarta Bundles come with increased allocations for SMS, data, and voice calls to any network, along with exclusive Airtel Money benefits.
For the first time in the market, subscribers will enjoy a unique feature: 100% reimbursement of transaction fees as airtime for bank-to-Airtel Money wallet transfers. Additionally, customers will receive 100% of their transaction costs back as airtime when withdrawing cash from Airtel Money agents or making payments to any Paybill number nationwide. These perks complement existing benefits such as free Airtel-to-Airtel money transfers and zero-cost payments at ‘Buy Goods’ tills.
Another standout feature of the Smarta Bundles is the daily data allocation, with unused resources rolling over to the next day and accumulating until the bundle’s validity period ends. This innovation ensures customers maximize their data usage without wastage.
Product | Price (Ksh) | Validity (Days) | Data /Day | Data GB/month | OnNet (Mins) | Allnet (Mins) | SMS Allnet |
Smarta Bundle 1000 | 1000 | 30 | 1GB/ Day | 30 GB | 3000 | 400 | 2000 |
Smarta Bundle 1500 | 1500 | 30 | 2GB/ Day | 60 GB | 3000 | 900 | 5000 |
The Smarta Bundles address a common pain point for many users: the inconvenience of managing multiple daily bundles for voice, data, and SMS. By consolidating these services into one package, Airtel ensures a hassle-free experience, allowing customers to stay connected without worrying about frequent disconnections.
Available in two affordable price points—Ksh1,000 and Ksh1,500—the Smarta Bundles not only cater to communication needs but also provide financial convenience throughout the month. This offering reflects Airtel’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions.
Airtel’s Continued Innovation
The launch of Smarta Bundles follows Airtel’s recent advancements in connectivity and digital services. In July 2024, the company introduced its 5G Home Unlimited plans, featuring a 5G router with a six-hour battery backup—a first in Kenya—ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during power outages. Additionally, Airtel launched its Progressive Web Application, Airtel Lite, which provides easy access to self-care services like airtime and bundle purchases, even on devices with limited storage.
Airtel Money’s Customer-Centric Approach
The Smarta Bundles are part of Airtel Money’s ongoing Rudishiwa campaign, which reimburses transaction fees to customers. In December 2023, Airtel Money introduced a campaign that refunded withdrawal charges as airtime.
Responding to customer feedback, the company later launched a similar initiative for Paybill transactions, offering 50% reimbursement. With Smarta Bundles, subscribers now enjoy 100% reimbursement on Paybill transaction costs, further enhancing the value proposition.
Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Airtel Money Managing Director, emphasized the company’s dedication to financial inclusion, stating, “Every Kenyan seeks to save. With the rising popularity of bank-to-wallet transactions, we aim to cushion our customers by reimbursing 100% of their transaction fees as airtime. The Smarta Bundles exemplify our commitment to providing flexible and convenient financial solutions.”
Network Expansion and Customer Commitment
Airtel Kenya’s Managing Director, Ashish Malhotra, highlighted the company’s extensive network expansion, which has enabled the launch of Smarta Bundles. “This offering underscores our mission to deliver seamless, value-driven solutions that meet the diverse needs of our customers while ensuring exceptional convenience and connectivity,” he said.
