Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba was on Wednesday, February 9 named to a new role in Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 Presidential Campaign team.

Namwamba, a lawyer and diplomat, will serve as Head of International Relations for Ruto’s Presidential campaign team.

“We have worked closely with Ababu over the past 10 years on many fronts and I have come to value his leadership, experience, focus and empathy. It is because of those qualities that I could not be more grateful to have him in our campaign team.

“With his considerable diplomatic talents, deep knowledge of the continent, strong network in the global stage and unwavering determination, I am confident in his role leading international relations within my presidential campaign,” Ruto stated.

A statement shared by the Ruto campaign’s Communications Director Hussein Mohammed, shone a light on some of Namwamba’s career highlights.

“Hon. Namwamba has a highly impressive profile as a public interest attorney and has previously been very active on the international lobbying circuit, strongly advocating for international human rights and fair-trade practices.”

” [He] is the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade from January 2018. He had previously served as a member of Parliament (MP) in the 10th and 11th parliaments,” the statement read in part.

Namwamba has also served as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs under former President Mwai Kibaki.

Namwamba is the latest appointment by the Ruto team as they look to defeat the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja coalition at the polls.

Among Namwamba’s roles will be shoring up the diaspora vote.

The Raila team has also been roping in  new faces to join the campaign board, including Jane Waikenda as Head of Protocol. Renowned PR practitioner Gina Din is also reportedly in talks to work with the coalition.
