Nairobi Senator Johnstone Sakaja has officially declared his interest to vie for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat in 2022. He announced this in an interview with media personality and comedian Jalang’o.

Sakaja who is born and raised in Nairobi requested residents to give him the opportunity to serve them in the position of governor.

He stated that he would implement great changes in the city that would create opportunities to eliminate urban poverty rampant in many estates of Nairobi.

During the interview, Sakaja promised a working Nairobi with a good transit system that he compared to that in Dubai which took 3 years to develop.

He continued to say that he would ensure Nairobi became a 24-hour economy that is clean, with adequate water supply and healthy residents. Sakaja further vowed to make the city secure and its residents will have a lot of dignity.

Sakaja described the impeachment of the former Governor Mike Sonko as ‘very unfortunate’. Although he did not agree with Sonko’s leadership style, Sakaja said he did not vote for his impeachment because he did not want to kick the former Governor when he was already down.

On the matter of cartels in the city, Sakaja stated that the best way to sort out the cartels was to not be part of them.

“Everything rises and falls on leadership,” said Sakaja.

Western leaders in December last year endorsed the Nairobi Senator in the city’s gubernatorial seat come to the 2022 General Election.

Speaking while attending a service at Friends Church in Maringo, the leaders led by Makadara MP George Aladwa said Sakaja was the best fit to represent the community in Nairobi come 2022.

Aladwa said it was time for Western leaders to also be recognized and have a seat at the high table of politics.

He further said the backing from a majority of the leaders signaled that Sakaja was the best candidate for the job. “With this kind of unity, we stand to shock the country come 2022,” he said.
