Safaricom Awards Lipa Na M-PESA Customers with 8 Tractors, 8 Trucks

Safaricom on Thursday awarded 16 Lipa Na M-PESA customers with 8 tractors and 8 trucks to conclude the Lipa Na M-PESA Promotion as the company marked 13 years of the mobile money transfer service.

The 16 include 8 customers and 8 businesses that use the service, with one winner each of the eight former provinces.

“We launched M-PESA 13 years ago with the goal of transforming our customers live by making it easy and convenient to send money. Since then, we have continued to innovate the service to ensure that it continues to meet the growing needs of our customers and that it remains relevant to them. As a mark of appreciation, we are also awarding 8 customers and 8 businesses today for using our Lipa Na M-PESA service which is now the most preferred alternative to cash in the country,” said Michael Joseph, CEO, Safaricom. 

Since the Lipa Na M-PESA promotion began on 8th January 2020, Safaricom has awarded six apartments to customers and 120 Tuktuks to Lipa Na M-PESA merchants.

Safaricom has also awarded surprise cashback more than 600,000 customers for paying with Lipa Na M-PESA while all merchants on the service have been receiving a 25 percent refund of their Lipa Na M-PESA transaction fees as a cashback every night.

The Lipa Na M-PESA services was launched in 2013 with the goal of providing a safe, fast and convenient alternative to cash payments. Beyond in-store payments, the service has also made it possible for thousands of businesses to go digital and receive payments from customers anywhere in the country and also from other countries through M-PESA Global. So far, over 160,000 M-PESA businesses accept Lipa Na M-PESA.
