Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) based A24 Media on Wednesday launched Yebo, an all factual Video on Demand (VoD) platform.

Speaking when making the announcement, the company’s co-founder and CEO Asif Sheikh said that the platform will be a curation of African stories from over 30 countries.

“For 11 years, we have been producing content from all over Africa. We have stuck to our mandate of telling the most relevant stories from all over Africa. Today we take a further step to give Africans within the continent and those in the Diaspora a chance to continue celebrating their motherland through stories,” said Mr Sheikh.

According to Mr Sheikh, Yebo is the first factual storytelling platform in Africa.

Formats featured in the platform include documentaries, biographies, short stories, magazine shows and weekly segments.

Commenting on the platform, A24’s head of strategy George Mutero said that the company was encouraged by the growth of digital media before deciding to venture into the VOD business.

“Africa has a population of at least 1.6 billion and most of the youth population have been searching for relevant content, we’ve seen the untapped potential and that is why we launch Yebo today,” said Mr Mutero.
