Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has been de-registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
According to the commission, Mr Sossion was removed from the teachers’ register the day he allegedly caused paralysis of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) training on April 23, 2019 in 11 centres.
The commission has accused Mr Sossion for fueling failure of teachers to attend the CBC training in Kakamega, Bungoma, Kajiado, Machakos, Garissa, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga and Kwale.
“Pursuant to termination of your services as a teacher with TSC, I am directed to say that the commission has determined that your name be removed from the register of teachers from July 29, 2019,” read the letter sent by the TSC.
The letter emanates from a judgement by Employment and Labour Relations Court, which found that TSC had a right to kick out Sossion for joining politics.
“The respondent (TSC) has ably demonstrated that the petitioner’s association and acceptance of nomination as MP on ODM party ticket went against its tenets as an institution in charge of regulation and discipline of those in the teaching service,” ruled Justice Nelson Abuodha.

However, the defiant Mr session dismissed the move as of little consequences. He cited Article 34 (A) of the Labour Relations Act, saying the termination of his contract did not affect his rights as a union official.
“The deregistartion changes nothing,” said Mr Sossion.
Further, the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) has backed Mr Sossion claiming that the letter by TSC does not affect his position as a union leader.
