The Catholic University of Eastern Africa has successfully transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Standard from the ISO 9001:2008 one.
This transition raises the bar on quality in the university, which is one of the top leading private universities in the region, expected to perform even better on matters of academic excellence.
In August 2011, the university which has a heritage of 35 years of offering quality education based on the Catholic Quality tradition, was certified by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) having met the Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for the ISO 9001:2008 Standard.
The reaped benefits impelled continued re-certification of the university until the revision of the ISO 9001 Standard was completed. In September 2015, the revised version and transition timelines were released. The university management committed itself to ensure that CUEA met the requirements for transition to the revised Standard within the scheduled timeline.
Receiving the ISO 9001:2015 QMS Certificate on 15th March 2019, from the Directorate of Quality Assurance team that championed the transition, the Rector and Vice Chancellor, Very Rev Prof Stephen Mbugua commended staff of the University for the successful transition from ISO 9001:2008, following the rigorous preparations and external quality audits by the Certifying Body, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
CUEA envisions itself as a world class university preparing transformative leaders for the Church and society. Quality is an integral part of this vision and it informs the university activities and services as ingrained in all its processes. The Directorate of Quality Assurance ensures quality is maintained in the University through various quality mechanisms.
The Directorate monitors and evaluates on compliance to statutory, legal and regulatory requirements. To achieve these, the university uses internal quality inspections, monitoring and evaluation, peer reviews among other mechanisms through well thought out criteria following both internal commitments and external best practice standards.
