KICC Nairobi will host more than 700 delegates and over 100 exhibitors during the 3rd WASPA International Conference & Expo. The conference has been organized by WASPA ( Water Service Providers Association) in collaboration with Ministry of Water & Sanitation and Council of Governors.
WASPA is the umbrella body that represents all public water service providers in the country. Water companies are therefore expected to be among the key stakeholders attending the conference.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to open the conference. Water issues in the country have been making headlines and the president is expected to comment on some of the sensitive issues in the sector.
Speaking on one of the local TV stations associated with the presidency, WASPA CEO, Antony Ambugo said that the goal of this conference and expo 2019 will be to enable all relevant stakeholders deliberate on prevailing challenges, and formulate from lessons of emerging best practices.
The conference is also geared towards developing strategies to fast-track the water sector towards speedy realization of government of Kenya Vision 2030 and SDG no 6 objective of universal access to affordable and safely managed water and sanitation services on or before 2030.
The conference comes at a time when the effects of climate change continue to impact negatively on availability of water resources. This is shown by prolonged droughts and flooding which are changing alternatives in seasons.
