State House Chief of Staff and Head of the Presidential Deliverly Unit (PDU) Nzioka Waita has confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media accounts have been deactivated after unauthorized access by an unknown individual.

In a tweet, Waita said that the accounts have been temporarily suspended to allow for the necessary remedial actions to be taken.

Earlier, a tweet appearing on the President’s handles went viral. In the tweet, President Kenyatta fired a warning that no one will be spared in the war on corruption including his ‘brother, sister and closest political ally’.

“If you are corrupt, we will fight you. You can be my brother or my sister or my closest political ally but if you are corrupt we will fight you. I will not be clouded by ethnicity or status in my quest to leave behind a united nation and I will continue championing for Kenya’s unity,” read the tweet.

The President appeared to back Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti who had vowed to send the big fish to Kamiti earlier this week.

In July last year, Waita also cleaned the house after official State House accounts were deemed to be sending tweets that were not very presidential.

He announced that all official communication would be channeled through @UKenyatta, @StateHouseKenya, @FirstLadyKenya and @KanzeDena.

Before Nzioka acted, the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) official twitter account had been used to insult city lawyer Donald Kipkorir, he was branded ‘a slay queen’.

Nzioka also expelled Uhuru’s former communication’s team led by Digital Communications Director Dennis Itumbi in a move to streamline the presidency’s official communication channels.

Twitter handles @PresidentKE AND @PSCU_Digital were de-activated in the purge.
