KQ flies at the NSE despite strike at JKIA

Market activity of Kenya Airways (KQ) resisted the aviation worker’s strike as the national carrier jumped 5.99% to end March 6 at a share price of Ksh6.02.

The airline, who on Wednesday came under pressure from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) as relates a merger with the Kenya Airports Authority, was the second highest gainer at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) trading floor yesterday.

Topping KQ was EA Portland Cement, who jumped 10% on Wednesday to end the day at Ksh18.70.

Following the cement manufacturer and the national carrier were East African Breweries, up 3.96% to Ksh 203.50, and Barclays Bank Kenya who posted a 3.07% gain with a closing share price of Ksh11.75.

Rounding up the top five gainers at the NSE on Wednesday was KCB Group, who on the day they announced a full year profit of Ksh24 billion, marked a 2.01% rise to end the day at Ksh43.05.

Olympia Capital Holdings, who had placed as the highest gainer on March 5, slipped down to rank on the top five of the biggest losers yesterday.

NSE Decliners

At a 5.68% decline, Olympia finished the day at a share price of Ksh2.49. The firm ranked fifth in terms of the highest decliners at the bourse.

Top of the pile in the highest decliners tab was East African Cables, scaling down 9.03% to end the day at a share price of Ksh2.82.

Unga Group slipped 7.89% to close at Ksh35, while Carbacid Investments ended the day at Ksh9.20, a 7.44% decrease.

Fourth on the list was Home Afrika, who lost 6.67% to settle at Ksh0.56.

Top Volume movers at the NSE

In terms of volumes traded at the NSE, the day’s highest movers were BAT Kenya, who transacted 5.8 million deals at a share price of Ksh604.

Safaricom moved 5.4 million shares at a share price of Ksh26.60 to come in second.

Barclays Bank also breached the five million mark, moving 5.04 million shares at a share price of Ksh11.75.

Another bank, KCB Group, registered the fourth highest volumes, moving 833,600 shares at Ksh43.05.

EA Breweries came in fifth, moving at Ksh203.50 a stock of 537,900 shares.
