Police boss Joseph Boinnet has assured the public that security forces remain on guard and urged cooperation from the public in light of the attack at Riverside that rocked Dusit D2 Hotel in Westlands on Tuesday afternoon.

National Police Service Inspector General Joseph Boinnet told the press that the security agencies remain on guard even as special forces were engaged in attempting to flush out “an unknown number of armed assailants” who could still be in the building.

“All our critical national infrastructure as well as our battle insulations remain on guard,” the Police boss said.

Boinnet urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies and comply with the instructions issued even as forces remain vigilant.

The IG also stated the attack that affected the Thai-owned international hotel happened at around 3pm and that security agencies, who treated the situation as a suspected terror attack, responded quickly, immediately cordoning off the area.

At the time of the presser, the Police boss said, “Our forces are engaged in an operation to flush them out,” referring to the suspected terror assailants.

He added that the Police service had made a number of rescues even as it was in the  process of confirming the injured.

“We wish to offer our prayers to those affected and wish quick recovery to those injured.”

Somali militant group Al-Shabab has taken responsibility for the attack on the Dusit D2 Hotel building, as per Al Jazeera.

The building features many offices, with one of those who works there telling Business Today that his colleagues were held up in the building. His colleagues were all rescued from the building and are now safe.

The attack happened on the afternoon of January 15, the third anniversary of the El Adde attack on a Kenyan Defence Forces camp in Somalia.
