EACC raids Obado’s homes

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday November 13 raided the homes of Governor Okoth Obado in Migori and Nairobi.

The EACC sleuths were looking for evidence they believe will help the commission mount a strong case against Obado as it delves deeper into investigations linking the governor to the loss of Sh2.5 billion at the county.

EACC is investigating firms linked to Obado that were fraudulently awarded tenders between 2013 and 2017. The companies were allegedly registered by his relatives and friends.

“The preliminary investigations have raised reasonable suspicion that embezzled public funds have been used by the governor, his wife and the said close proxies, the respondents herein, to accumulate property and illicit wealth,” EACC said in documents filed in court.

Obado was freed on a Sh5 million cash bail on October 24. He has been charged with the death of Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno.
