Machakos University students must be wondering at what level of education they are currently in after the varsity ordered them to report back to the institution accompanied by their parents.

In a notice to students on October 19, Prof Ezra Okemwa, The Registrar Academic Affairs informed students of dates when they will be expected back.

“Every student must be strictly accompanied by his/her parent or guardian as indicated in the admission file. Students are strictly advised to report on the dates indicated for them,” read the first requirement listed in the letter.

Second year students will be expected back at the varsity on Monday October 29 while third year students will be expected back on Tuesday October 30 with the re-admission process expected to start at 7:00 am and end at 5:00 pm.

In similar fashion, students will be required to fill declaration forms and personal student information forms.

Students with fee balances will be as well required to clear arrears by October 26.

Every student will also be required to bring with him/her 2 passport size photos, copies of their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate as well as their national ID or birth certificate.

The university was closed indefinitely on September 26 following three days of student unrest who blamed the institution’s top brass over hiking school fees without proper consultations.

Unfair election of student leaders and lack of school identification cards were the other grievances that led to the strike.

Classes will commence on Wednesday October 31.
