Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on October 22 ordered investigations into the disappearance of a key report in the trial of former Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Managing Director Ben Chumo and suspended MD Ken Tarus.

The report prepared by the Energy Regulatory Comission (ERC) was under the custody of KPLC and contained key details on the purchase of faulty transformers by the former managers.

DPP Haji has now ordered a probe into the circumstances under which the report went missing after Senior DPP Alexander Muteti told chief magistrate Felix Kombo that the report could not be traced essentially putting the trial of Chumo and Dr. Tarus on hold.

Muteti asked for adjournment of the court proceedings to allow the prosecutorial office to investigate the matter since the prosecution has anchored its case on the original report.

Chumo, Tarus and 17 other KPLC officials have already been charged with procurement of defective transformers and irregularities in prequalifying 525 companies for labour and transport contracts.
