Kenya Breweries Limited in partnership with AMREF Africa has today handed over a water project worth Ksh 7.6 million to residents of Murara, Igembe North constituency, Meru County.
The partnership facilitated the drilling and equipping of borehole; construction of pump house, 3-Kilometer pipeline, 100m³ tank and two water kiosks. It was also used for training of water management committees and borehole operators.
Speaking during the event, EABL Group Corporate Relations Director Eric Kiniti said that the investment was a strategic move geared at supporting communities with the greatest need.
“Our aim is to reach 10,000 beneficiaries in this area and this is why we chose a collaborative approach with AMREF to ensure maximum impact,” said Kiniti.
“The initiative falls under our Water of Life programme, inspired by Sustainable Development Goal 6 that advocates for access to clean water and sanitation. So far, the programme has touched over 2.5 million lives in Kenya,” he added.
KBL ensures efficient use of water in their operations and promotes environmental conservation through reforestation efforts in various parts of the country. Water is a key ingredient in all KBL products, and the growing water scarcity is not just an issue for the company, it is also a risk to millions of people in the community.

According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Kenya is classified as a chronically water scarce country. Estimates of water supply in the country indicate that only about 56% of the population has access to safe water.
