‘Made in Kenya’ mark to boost uptake of goods

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has partnered with Brand Kenya Board to hasten the  consumption of Kenya-made goods  both locally and internationally.

Brand Kenya and its key partners have developed a unique mark known as ‘Made in Kenya’ to identify goods manufactured in the country that is aimed at boosting the Buy Kenya, Build Kenya initiative.

The mark seeks to widen consumer base for the manufactures across the country and strengthen Kenya’s products globally as well as spur an export-driven manufacturing agenda.

Thus, the partnership seeks to promote the ‘Made in Kenya’ brand mark to manufacturers and collection of feedback on this initiative.

Deputy President William Ruto while launching the mark during the recent 2018 Annual Kenya National Trade Week said that label will give locally made goods a deserved identity making Kenya a hub of products that will meet demands of buyers across the globe.

The Made in Kenya Brand Mark we are launching today will set Kenya apart as the home for a set of products that meet the needs of discerning buyers across the world. All our authentic products will do well if they have some iconic branding and a form of identity,” the deputy president said.

KAM Acting Chief Executive Mr Tobias Alando, speaking during the signing of partnership agreement said that promoting local industries by strengthening the uptake for Kenyan products, both local and international markets is a sure way of achieving on Big 4 Agenda.

This mark of identity seeks to increasing the competitiveness of local products, which is key in increasing exports, creating jobs and driving industrialization,” added Mr Alando.

Damaris Ngugi, Brand Kenya acting CEO on her part said that the mark will make consumers cherish Kenya-made products adding that the partnership deal will enable both firms synergize efforts to authenticate and promote locally made products in local and global markets.

The Made in Kenya Brand Mark will be placed on all Kenyan products and comes with a promise of authentic, organic and high quality products,” said Ms Ngugi.

Established in March 2008, Brand Kenya Board is a state corporation established to come up with initiatives that will market the country as a distinguished brand worldwide.

Kenya Association of Manufacturers has a membership of more than 1000 that is vital in contributing to the economy.

Some of Kenya’s chief exports include tea, coffee, spices, vegetables, flowers and fruits among others.
