Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Chief Executive Angela Ndambuki has left the business lobby organisation barely eight months after she was appointed.

The KNNCI Board has subsequently reappointed George Kiondo as Acting Chief Executive. Chairman Kiprono Kittony told Capital FM that Ms Ndambuki was on probation for eight months, and the board,  “has decided not to confirm her.”

Mr Kiondo was the Acting CEO before she was appointed in September 2017. Ms Ndambuki, who is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, was previously the CEO of the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK).

The former Tatu Band songstress was instrumental in developing and finalizing the National Music Policy which is a blueprint for guiding coordinating and regulating the music industry in Kenya. In April, Ms Ndambuki was named among top 100 reputable Africans by Reputational Poll International.

She holds a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

The latest turn of events is a contrast to events of eight months ago when Mr Kittony said the decision to appoint her was preceded by a rigorous search and that the Board had concluded that Ms Ndambuki’s leadership and considerable experience in strategic leadership, advocacy would bring a wealth of business knowledge and management experience to the business lobby.

Ms Ndambuki, he said, had demonstrated throughout her career the ability to work successfully in different environments, designing and leading strategies.

“I look forward to working with her to create the next chapter of the KNCCI’s story of success. I also thank Mr Kiondo for his exemplary leadership of KNCCI over the last eight months,” Mr Kittony had said.

Ms Ndambuki, for her part, said she was excited to take over as the new CEO especially at this time when the country was experiencing great and favourable attention as the most preferred investment destination in Africa from leading global investment agencies.

“My role will focus on enhancing this image and grow the international investors’ portfolio. With the same energy we shall focus on key advocacy issues affecting the business community to ensure a favorable business climate for Kenyan companies and facilitate ease of doing business,” she said.

She had promised to grow the KNCCI membership in partnership with all the 47 county chapters to include all corporates and SMEs countrywide.
